Carterville Missouri is located just north of Joplin in Jasper County, Missouri. The City of Carterville is situated just east of and adjoining Webb City and about midway between Joplin and Carthage.

Carterville has a rich history dating back to the early 1900's when it was a booming mining town. Old route 66 stretches through the center of town giving residents and visitors a beautiful scenic drive any time of year.

In 1921 Carterville became part of the still famous “Route 66 Highway” when the first concrete was laid between Carterville and Carthage.  The highway became a landmark for the city when it came right down Main Street.  Thus the motto “Main Street USA”.

 

 

 

 

Carterville school zone safety upgrades

The Carterville Police Department is pleased to announce the completion of the Missouri's Safe Routes To School program to upgrade the Carterville Elementary School zones. Our department was awarded $12,080.00 with which we purchased four solar powered flashing school zone lights and new signs that were installed in early September for the 2009-2010 school year. These flashing yellow lights are enhancing the safety of the existing school zone as well as the addition of the two new zones on Pine Street and Tennessee Street. These enhancements along with the recent re-striping and parking changes along Main Street are greatly aiding in safer streets for our kids and our citizens both walking and driving.
