Carterville has a contract for service trash collection which is placed up for bids every five years and chosen based on rates and services offered. The current rate for trash service is $13.21 per month through Republic Services and will be collected monthly on the same bill as your water and sewer. There are no bag limits at this time, however you may wish to contact City Hall for additional rules as to what may be rejected for pickup.
Residents should have poly carts on the curbside no later than 6am on their day of collection. Residents living South of Hall Street will be collected on Thursday and residents living North of Hall Street on Monday.
Residents of the City of Carterville may bring their recycling items to the Public Works Department, located at 310 South Tennessee, just South of the Fire Department at Tennessee and Main. We accept plastics, glass, and metals. (NO hazardous waste or electronics) Paper, newspaper, cardboard, etc. may be brought to the paper dumpster located behind City Hall.
The City of Carterville offers an annual spring clean-up day. This date is set annually at our April council meeting, but typically occurs around May or June. Residents may leave larger than usual items curbside each week to lessen the need for additional trash service during annual clean-ups. The dates of this annual event are advertised on Facebook, in the local Sentinel newspaper, and the City provides flyers, which are available at the City Hall Office, Public Works Department, and at several businesses in town. You can also view the website around the end of April to view the flyer. Additional dumpsters will be available at public works during the annual clean-up, however all vegetative waste must be taken to the Center Creek Waste Water Treatment plant in Webb City.
